F.A.Q.

1. WHERE CAN I FIND THE SERIAL NUMBER OR MODEL NUMBER OF MY FIESTA BARBEQUE?

The serial and model number can be found on the silver rating plate sticker located on the back support bracket by the base barbeque casting, the left side of the barbeque base or the back of the centre beam, depending on the model purchased. A Fiesta serial number is 8 numeric digits i.e. 02028610 and the model number is a combination of 2 digits and 5 numbers i.e. GT45079. For easy future reference record these numbers in the allocated space on the front page of your Use & Care manual.

When contacting our customer service centre for support, knowing your model and serial number in advance will increase our ability to answer your questions efficiently. When purchasing replacement or upgrade parts for your Fiesta barbeque you will notice we reference model numbers differently than the model number on the silver rating plate. For example, if the model is an XT40073, we will refer to this as a 400 model. This is derived from the first 3 numbers AFTER the letters in the model number. All parts specified for a 400 model would fit your XT40073.

If you are having difficulty finding your model number, contact our customer service centre and they will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

2. WHY DO I NEED TO CHECK MY BARBEQUE FOR SPIDERS & OTHER INSECTS?

The additives in propane and natural gas attract spiders and insects that have the ability to spin a web or build a nest that could partially or completely block the gas flow. Follow these easy steps to clean your venturi tubes.

3. WHAT IS A BTU?

FIESTA'S "ACCUFLOW" VALVES DELIVER TRUE TEMPERATURE FROM LOW TO HIGH AND ANYWHERE IN-BETWEEN.
BTU stands for British Thermal Unit, which is a scientific measurement for how much energy it takes to raise one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit. In barbeques, it is an indication of the maximum heat that can be produced when all of the main burners are on the high setting.

So how should BTUs factor in your purchase decision? There are a few things to consider. Although the number of BTUs should increase as the main cooking surface increases, it is important to know that more BTUs do not necessarily mean a better barbeque.

Our research indicates that having 100 to 125 BTUs per square inch is ideal for year-round cooking. This BTU range will allow you to heat your barbeque on high to the desired temperature quickly, and then lower the BTU output using Fiesta's "Accuflow" control valves to maintain the ideal cooking temperature.

Note: You may be unable to maintain low cooking temperatures on BBQs having a BTU rating above 125 BTUs per sq. in.

Also, remember that you shouldn't cook your food on high. Preheating a barbeque with 115 BTUs per square inch with the lid down, to between 500 and 600 degrees Fahrenheit (260°C to 316°C), will take 6 to 8 minutes on a 70-degree day (21°C) with no wind.

The chart below shows you the BTUs per square inch for some of Fiesta Barbeques' most common BTU ratings and cooking surface sizes along with a formula so you can calculate the BTUs per square inch for any other barbeque.

BTUs FOR MAIN COOKING SURFACE   MAIN COOKING SURFACE IN SQUARE INCHES   BTUs PER SQUARE INCH
27,000 ÷ 240 = 112.5
35,000 ÷ 300 = 116.7
40,000 ÷ 345 = 115.9
50,000 ÷ 400 = 125
55,000 ÷ 450 = 122.2

Note: Barbeques are not airtight cooking appliances. Air holes are strategically positioned throughout the casting to ensure sufficient airflow, which is an essential element in creating the desired blue cooking flame.

Barbeques made in Canada generally have a higher BTU rating than barbeques made in the United States. This is because Canada enjoys a cooler climate than the US, requiring more BTUs per square inch to maintain proper cooking temperatures. This is especially important for those of us who barbeque during the winter months.

YOUR BARBEQUE IS A YEAR-ROUND OUTDOOR COOKING APPLIANCE

4. THE FLAME ON MY PROPANE BARBEQUE IS LOW AND IT TAKES FOREVER TO COOK ANYTHING - WHAT IS WRONG?

It sounds like the flow-limiting device has been activated. This safety feature is found in the valve on the hose leading from the propane tank to the burner. The flow-limiting device can be activated by a leak in the gas system, or improper lighting procedures. If this is suspected please perform the following:

i. Shut off the cylinder valve and all the burner valves
ii. Perform a leak test to determine if a gas leak has caused the flow-limiting device to activate.
iii. If the test is negative, disconnect the regulator from the propane tank and reconnect. Then carefully follow the lighting procedures step-by-step, ensuring all valves (including tank) are OFF before starting. Finally, follow the shutting down your barbeque procedure to ensure there is no residual gas left in the system under pressure.

5. CAN I CONVERT MY BBQ'S FUEL METHOD?

Your barbeque has been certified for a specific fuel method as listed on the rating plate on your barbeque. For safety reasons, Fiesta does not recommend the conversion of the gas supply specified on your rating plate to any other fuel. Any conversion will result in termination of the product warranty and voids the product certification by C.S.A.

6. TO SPEED UP MY COOKING TIME CAN I TURN MY MAIN BURNER AND REAR ROTISSERIE BURNER ON AT THE SAME TIME?

NO - Your barbeque has not been designed or engineered to operate with the rear rotisserie burner and one or both of the main burners on at the same time. This warning is clearly stated on the decal of all barbeques with a rear rotisserie burner and in the Use & Care manual. Failure to follow this warning will lead to excessive heat build up that would damage barbeque components and may cause bodily harm.

7. THE REGULATOR ON MY PROPANE BARBEQUE HUMS OR HAS FROST ON IT - SHOULD I BE CONCERNED?

No, this is not a hazard or a defect. It is a temporary condition usually caused by a high outside temperature and a full propane tank.

8. SHOULD I HAVE PARTS LEFT OVER AFTER I HAVE FINISHED ASSEMBLING MY BARBEQUE?

You should have absolutely NO parts leftover. However, there may be some hardware left over such as a bolt, wing nut or a spring clip.

Manufacturers will buy common bag packs of hardware and pass the savings on to the consumer. The only drawback is left over hardware. Refer to your assembly manual, which clearly outlines what hardware is required for assembly - if the part in question is not mentioned, then it is not required for your model. If you are not sure contact our trained and knowledgeable customer care staff who are waiting to assist you.

9. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MY OLD TANK AND THE Q.C.C.1 TANK?

The visual difference between the two tanks is that the Q.C.C.1 tank has outside threads on the valve. The technical difference is that the Q.C.C.1 valve has a two-step redundant valve system, which does not allow the gas to flow until a positive connection is made with a propane appliance. This valve is an added safety measure that ensures for a worry-free cooking experience.

The Q.C.C.1 valve is one of many features offered as part of our GAS GUARDIANTM System.

10. WHAT IS AN O.P.D. PROPANE TANK?

O.P.D. stands for Overfill Protection Device, which is located inside a propane cylinder and is equipped with a float that will prohibit propane from exceeding 80% capacity during the filling procedure. The 20% empty volume allows for expansion of the gas (which is naturally cold) therefore not allowing the propane tank to be overfilled. This creates peace of mind and safe enjoyable cooking experience for the owner. O.P.D tanks can be identified easily by the triangle/pyramid or three sided valve handle.

The O.P.D. feature is one of many offered as part of our GAS GUARDIANTM System.

11. WHAT OPTIONS CAN I CHANGE OR ADD TO MY BARBEQUE?

There are many items that can be upgraded or changed after your initial purchase, such as cooking grids, cooking systems, and side shelf inserts. Items such as burners and ignition systems can be upgraded on certain models please call our info Fiesta experts at 1-800-387-8643 and ask about upgrade options for your model.

For certification and safety reasons, options such as a side burner, rear rotisserie burner and fuel type (propane or natural gas) must be factory installed.

If you are in the market for a new barbeque take a few minutes and fill out our Before Buying Questionnaire.

12. WHY DO I HAVE TO LIGHT MY BARBEQUE WITH A MATCH OR LIGHTER?

There are several common factors that can cause your ignitor not to work. If your barbeque is brand new some key things to check are:

  • A loose wire connection - check that all connections are tight.
  • A broken ceramic electrode - a replacement electrode is required.
  • Poor Ground - ensure collector box, burner and ignitor are assembled properly.
  • Faulty ignitor - replace ignitor.
  • Electronic Ignition - check for low or dead battery.
  • On older models, check first for greasy residue build-up and clean(link); then check the above points.
